What Is Endoscopic Spine Surgery?

The surgeon introduces a narrow tubular endoscope, about the width of a pen and fitted with a high-definition camera and light, through a small portal in the skin. Under continuous imaging guidance, the surgeon removes the herniated disc material or bony overgrowth compressing the nerve, then closes the small incision. There is no large incision and minimal disruption to the muscles around the spine.
