Discover The Conditions & Symptoms

Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles tendonitis is irritation of the tendon at the back of the heel, often from overuse. Learn the symptoms, causes, and treatment options.

Ankle Fractures

Ankle fractures are common orthopedic injuries that occur when one or more bones in the ankle break. They can result from a traumatic event, such as a fall or a sports injury, or from gradual wear and tear over time. If left untreated, ankle fractures can lead to chronic pain and decreased mobility, making it important to seek prompt medical attention if you suspect you have sustained an ankle fracture.

Ankle Sprains

An ankle sprain is a stretched or torn ligament, usually from rolling or twisting the ankle. Learn the grades, symptoms, and treatment, and when a sprain needs a specialist.

Annular Tear

Annular tears are a common, degenerative condition that can develop in the spine naturally as you age or through external factors such as an injury or abnormal stress on the spine. An annular tear is formed when the normally thick outer layer of a disc is ripped or torn as a result of stress. After an annular tear is formed, additional stress on the disc can cause the soft inner “jelly” (nucleus pulposus) to leak out from the interior of the disc forming what is known as a Herniated Disc. If this leakage happens on the rear side of the disc, the nucleus pulposus can press against the nearby nerve roots resulting in what is commonly referred to as a “pinched nerve”.

Arm Pain

Arm pain can come from overuse, injury, inflammation, or a pinched nerve in the neck or wrist, and occasionally signals a heart problem.

Arthritis Of The Spine

Arthritis is one of the most common types of disorders experienced by older people, with some estimates stating that as many as 67 million people may suffer from some form of arthritis by the year 2025. Arthritis can affect many different parts of the body and the spine is unfortunately not immune. This type of arthritis is typically known as arthritis of the spine and its onset can cause or worsen a variety of other issues that can cause neck and back pain as well as a variety of other issues.

Back Pain

If you are experiencing back pain, you are not alone. Back pain affects 80 percent of Americans at some point in their lives, and, in fact, low back pain is one of the most prevalent causes of disability in people under the age of 45. There are many causes of back pain, with some more serious than others.

Bulging Discs

Bulging discs, also known as disc protrusions, are a very common occurrence in people of all ages. The spine is made up of small, round bones (vertebrae) that are cushioned by shock-absorbing discs. These discs feature a tough, fibrous shell and a soft, gel-like core. The outer fibrous portion of our discs can weaken due to factors such as daily wear and tear, sudden injury, and the body’s natural aging process. Pressure from the inner core of the disc can then stretch to the outer rim, causing the disc to “bulge” outward in one direction.

Bunions

Bunions are a common foot condition that can be treated with minimally invasive surgery to minimize disruption to daily life.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a common condition that affects the hand and wrist, causing numbness, tingling or weakness. CTS occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm to the hand, becomes compressed at the wrist. Orthopedic treatments can help alleviate these symptoms and improve the function of the hand.

Charcot Foot

Charcot foot is a serious condition most often seen in people with diabetes or peripheral neuropathy. It occurs when the bones, joints, and soft tissues of the foot weaken, leading to fractures, dislocations, and significant deformity. If not addressed, Charcot foot can result in severe instability, ulceration, and even amputation.

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS), also known as ulnar neuropathy, is a condition that affects the ulnar nerve causing pain, numbness, pain, and a variety of other symptoms. The ulnar nerve runs from the neck to the hand and passes through a narrow tunnel of tissue on the inside of the elbow called the cubital tunnel. When the ulnar nerve becomes compressed or irritated in this area, it can cause a range of symptoms in the arm, wrist, and hand.

Degenerative Disc Disease

Degenerative disc disease describes age-related wear of the spinal discs that can cause chronic back or neck pain.

Diabetic Foot Care

Our team of expert physicians provide comprehensive diabetic foot care including infection treatment, wound care, debridement, and more.

Drop Foot/Foot Drop

Dropped foot or foot drop is a common condition that can be treated with minimally invasive techniques.

Flatfoot Correction

Flatfoot, also known as fallen arches or adult acquired flatfoot deformity, occurs when the arch of the foot collapses. This condition can cause pain, swelling along the inside of the ankle, and difficulty walking or standing for long periods. Over time, the deformity may worsen, leading to joint arthritis, tendon damage, and impaired mobility.

Foot and Ankle

Total Spine & Orthopedics treats common foot and ankle conditions with conservative and minimally invasive care in Melbourne and Orlando, FL.

Foraminal Stenosis

Foraminal stenosis, or narrowing, occurs when the open passageways between the spinal vertebrae (foramina) are encroached upon by displaced bone or soft tissue, often due to degenerative changes in parts of the spine.

Hammertoe Correction

Toe deformities such as hammertoe, claw toe, and mallet toe are common conditions that can lead to pain, corns, calluses, and difficulty finding shoes that fit comfortably. These deformities are often caused by imbalances in the muscles and tendons that control toe movement, sometimes worsened by arthritis, genetics, or wearing tight footwear.

Heel Pain

Heel pain most often comes from plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, or the Achilles tendon. Learn the common causes and how heel pain is treated.

Herniated Discs

Chances are you’ve heard of a herniated disc. If you have been diagnosed with a herniated disc, you are likely also familiar with the pain and symptoms often caused by this condition. As you begin to research the treatment options available to help you find pain relief, it’s important to understand what causes a herniated disc to develop in the first place.

Hip Labral Tears

A labral tear is an injury to the tissue between the socket and ball portions of the hip joint. This tear can cause a variety of symptoms including intense pain, difficulty moving your hip, and reduced mobility of the hip.

Hip Pain

The hips are one of the most critical joints in the body, allowing you to do many of your normal daily activities such as walking, standing, and more. This makes it all the more debilitating if pain, numbness, or weakness begins to affect your hips. Symptoms such as difficulty walking, trouble sleeping, and general uncomfortableness when lying on one side or the other are all common indicators of a hip issue that may need to be addressed.

Joint Pain

Pain in the joints is a very common symptom often experienced in the feet, hips, spine, knees, or hands. In addition to pain, joint stiffness, as well as a burning or throbbing sensation in or near the joints, are also commonly associated with joint-related issues. It is important to note that in many cases the pain or burning sensation may not be constant but can increase or decrease depending on activity.

Knee Pain

Knee Pain is a common symptom that can be caused by a wide variety of conditions ranging from sports injuries to tendonitis or certain medical conditions such as arthritis. The best way to determine the exact cause and available treatment methods for your specific situation is to have a diagnosis done by an expert physician such as our team of doctors here at Total Spine.

Meniscus Tears

Meniscus tears are a common injury to the knee, often caused by twisting or bending the knee forcefully. The meniscus is a crescent-shaped piece of cartilage that acts as a cushion between the thigh bone and the shin bone. It helps to distribute weight evenly across the knee joint and provides stability.

Nail Fungus

Nail fungus (onychomycosis) causes thick, brittle, discolored toenails. Learn the symptoms, risk factors, and treatment options.

Neck Pain

At some point in life, most adults experience some level of neck pain. Whether you woke up in the morning with a “crick in your neck” or you have felt the constant dull pain of a spine condition, you understand the frustration neck pain can cause.

Nerve Pain

Nerve pain, also known as neuralgia, can occur when a nerve in the body is pinched or compressed. Nerve pain is something that nearly everyone experiences at some point in their lives. While this pain can occur anywhere, it commonly occurs in the neck or back. Because the nerves in the spinal column are so tightly packed, they can very easily become compressed by displaced or strained anatomy.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common degenerative joint disease that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by the wear and tear of the cartilage that cushions the joints, leading to pain, stiffness, and loss of mobility. Osteoarthritis can affect any joint in the body, but it most commonly occurs in the hips, knees, and hands.

Pinched Nerves

Pinched nerves are one of the most common causes of chronic neck and back pain. A nerve becomes “pinched” when it is placed under pressure from an external source, such as an out of place bone or soft tissue from a herniated disc.

Radiculopathy

Radiculopathy is a pinched spinal nerve root causing pain, numbness, or weakness that radiates into an arm or leg. Learn the causes and minimally invasive treatments.

Rotator Cuff Tears

A rotator cuff tear is a very common condition in the shoulder that can cause recurring pain, weakness, and a variety of other symptoms. When the tissues connecting muscles in the shoulder to bone, commonly known as tendons, become damaged or "torn", it can create a sensation of pain or weakness. The severity and symptoms of the tear can vary depending on what caused the tear to form and other factors.

Runner’s Knee

Runner's knee is a common injury among runners and athletes. It occurs when the knee joint experiences excessive stress or wear and tear, leading to pain, inflammation, and discomfort. In this article, we will discuss the causes, symptoms, and treatments for runner's knee.

Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Pain

If you’ve heard of SI Joint Pain, you may know that it is one of the most common causes of chronic back pain. According to some estimates, as much as 24% of back pain originates from the SI Joint and related issues. The actual causes of this SI-Joint originating pain can vary greatly from age related issues to injury, or spinal abnormalities.

Sciatica

The sciatic nerve is the longest and widest nerve in our body. It controls numerous muscles in the lower extremities and supplies sensation as well.

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is the presence of an abnormal curvature of the spine. Scoliosis may affect the cervical (upper), thoracic (middle) and lumbar (lower) regions of the spine. The curves, which veer to the left or right, often present in an S- or C-shape. These curvatures may be categorized as non-structural — meaning the curve is temporary and the spine is structurally normal — or structural, meaning that the spine has a fixed curve.

Shoulder Labral Tears

Shoulder labral tears are a common injury that can cause pain and limited mobility in the shoulder joint. The labrum is a ring of cartilage around the socket of the shoulder blade (scapula), which helps to deepen the socket and stabilize the shoulder joint. A tear in this cartilage can occur due to injury, degeneration, or overuse, causing pain, weakness, and instability in the shoulder.

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain can come from rotator cuff injuries, arthritis, frozen shoulder, or a pinched nerve in the neck, and it can limit sleep and daily tasks.

SLAP Tears

SLAP (Superior Labrum Anterior and Posterior) tears are a type of shoulder injury that affects the labrum, the cartilage that surrounds the shoulder joint. The labrum helps to stabilize the joint and provides a surface for the shoulder blade to move on. A SLAP tear occurs when the labrum is damaged, usually from a traumatic event such as a fall or a sports injury.

Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal that can crowd the nerves and cause back pain and leg pain when standing or walking.

Spondylolisthesis

Spondylolisthesis is a condition in which one vertebra slips forward over the one below it, which can strain joints and compress nerves.

Sports Injuries

Sports injuries are a common occurrence, especially among athletes and active individuals. Whether it's a sprained ankle, a torn ligament, or a broken bone, sports injuries can sideline even the most seasoned athlete and impact their ability to perform at their best. Orthopedic treatments are often the go-to solution for these types of injuries, helping individuals get back on their feet and back to the sport they love.

Trigger Finger

Trigger finger is a condition that affects the tendons in the fingers, making it difficult to straighten or bend the affected finger. The condition is also known as stenosing tenosynovitis and is caused by inflammation of the tendons in the fingers. The most common symptoms of trigger finger include pain, swelling, and a clicking or popping sound when attempting to straighten or bend the affected finger.

Whiplash

Whiplash is a neck injury similar to a strain or a sprain and usually follows some sort of trauma to the neck area. Whiplash is usually caused as a result of an abrupt back-and-forward motion of the head and neck; people in car accidents where they have been hit from the rear often complain of whiplash. Depending on the extent of the injury, whiplash can be quite painful and can, in some cases, become a chronic condition with debilitating effects.
