Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative medicine uses your body’s own biological resources, such as stem cells and platelet-rich plasma (PRP), to support healing of the spine and joints. These non-surgical treatments aim to reduce pain, restore mobility, and in many cases help patients avoid unnecessary surgery.

What Is Regenerative Medicine?

Regenerative medicine focuses on repairing damaged tissue rather than only managing symptoms. It draws on the body’s innate healing ability, using concentrated cells and growth factors collected from your own blood, bone marrow, or fat tissue and delivered precisely to the injured area.

Our team combines advanced imaging with regenerative techniques to treat the source of pain. Regenerative care can be used on its own or alongside minimally invasive procedures, such as endoscopic spine surgery combined with stem cell therapy for herniated discs.

Our Regenerative Treatments

Is Regenerative Treatment Right For You?

Not every patient is a candidate. During your consultation, a specialist reviews your MRI, examines you, and explains whether a regenerative treatment is likely to help or whether another approach is safer.

If you already have MRI imaging, you can sign up for our free MRI review.

What To Expect From Regenerative Treatment

Regenerative spine and joint treatments are minimally invasive and carefully planned:

  1. 1

    Consultation and MRI review

We review your history, examine you, and evaluate your imaging to confirm the source of pain.

  2. 2

    Personalized plan

We discuss whether stem cell therapy, PRP, or a combination is best for your condition.

  3. 3

    Image-guided injection

Treatment is delivered with fluoroscopy or ultrasound guidance for precise placement.

  4. 4

    Recovery and follow-up

Most patients return to light activity within days, with gradual improvement over the following weeks and months.

Stem Cells Or PRP?

Both use your own biology to support healing. They differ in what is delivered and what they are typically used for.

Stem cell / BMAC therapy

Cell-based

Concentrated cells from bone marrow or fat

  • Used for disc degeneration and chronic neck or back pain.
  • Herniated or bulging discs causing arm or leg pain.
  • Arthritis in major joints such as the knee, hip, or shoulder.

PRP therapy

Platelet-based

Concentrated platelets from your blood

  • Tendon and ligament injuries such as tennis elbow or rotator cuff tears.
  • Mild to moderate arthritis in weight-bearing joints.
  • Often tried before more invasive procedures.

Your specialist will explain whether one option, or a combination, is best for your condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions can regenerative medicine treat?

Regenerative medicine can help with spinal disc degeneration, herniated discs, arthritis, tendon and ligament injuries, sports injuries, and chronic musculoskeletal pain.

What type of stem cells are used?

We use only autologous cells, meaning your own cells: bone marrow stem cells and stromal cells from adipose (fat) tissue. Each patient is evaluated individually before a specific treatment is recommended.

How long does it take to see results after PRP or stem cell therapy?

Some patients notice improvement within weeks, while full results may take several months as healing progresses.

Are regenerative treatments FDA approved?

Some therapies are FDA regulated, such as autologous PRP, while others, including certain stem cell applications, are still being studied. Procedures using a patient's own tissue are considered part of a physician's practice of medicine. The FDA provides guidelines for the treatment and manipulation of a patient's own tissues, and Total Spine follows these guidelines by offering same-day treatment using the patient's unaltered cells.

How successful is regenerative therapy for joint and spine conditions?

Many patients experience meaningful improvement, but results depend on the individual condition, overall health, and following the post-treatment plan.

Is regenerative treatment covered by insurance?

Costs vary with the area treated, the type of treatment, and the number of sessions. Most regenerative procedures are not fully covered by insurance; our team will explain costs and any available benefits during your consultation.

Who is not a candidate?

Patients with severe spinal instability that requires fusion, an active infection, or serious medical conditions that make injections unsafe may not be candidates.

Can everyone benefit from regenerative treatment?

Not everyone is a good candidate. We offer a complimentary consultation and imaging review, and if a successful outcome is not likely, you will be told that during the consultation.
